BOOKS IN THE BIBLE

The books of God's remembrance, is the state the evil and the good we do.

Psalm 56:8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? (KJV) Even in our deepest sorrow, God cares! Jesus tells us further how much God understands us; He knows even the number of hairs on our heads (Mat.10:30). We often waver between faith and fear, our faith is an up and down thing. When you feel discouraged and are sure no one understands or cares, remember that God knows every problem and sees every tear.

Psalm 139:4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. (KJV) Sometimes we don’t let people know us completely because we are afraid they will discover something about us that they won’t like. But God already knows everything about us, and He still loves us.

Malachi 3:16 Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name. (KJV) . . . The ungodly utter blasphemies against God, the godly defend God's righteous dealings against those blasphemers (Hebrews 3:13). The book of remembrance may or may not be an actual book. It really does not matter. The point is that God will remember ALL those who are ungodly and ALL those who remain faithful to Him, and who love, fear, honor, and respect Him.

Our conscience.

Romans 2:15-16 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) [16] In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. (KJV)

The Word of Christ.

John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. (KJV)

Book of Law.

Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. (KJV)

God's eternal counsel.

Psalm 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. (KJV)

Books often sealed.

Isaiah 29:11 And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: (KJV)

Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. (KJV)

Rev. 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. (KJV)

Books will be opened on Judgment Day.

Daniel 7:10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. (KJV)

John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. (KJV)

Romans 2:15-16 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) [16] In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. (KJV)

Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. (KJV)

Book of life.

The book of life is God’s list of those who are in a right relationship to Him and who remain faithful to Him. Below are some Old Testament verses that tell us about the righteous.

Psalm 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (KJV)

Psalm 7:9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins. (KJV)

Psalm 11:7 For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright. (KJV)

Psalm 37:17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth the righteous. (KJV)

Psalm 37:29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever. (KJV)

Psalm 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. (KJV)

Psalm 69:28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous. (KJV)

Psalm 75:10 All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. (KJV)

Psalm 92:12-14 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. [13] Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. [14] They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; (KJV)

Psalm 140:13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence. (KJV)

The New Testament verses on the “book of life” indicates those who will receive eternal life.

Philip. 4:3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life. (KJV)

Rev. 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. (KJV)

Rev. 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (KJV)

Rev. 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (KJV)

Book of Life references in the Bible.

Exodus 32:33 And the Lord said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book. (KJV)

Psalm 56:8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? (KJV)

Psalm 69:27-28 Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness. [28] Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous. (KJV)

Psalm 69:22-28 is speaking of the "wicked."

Daniel 7:10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. (KJV)

Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. (KJV)

Luke 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.(KJV) Jesus' Words. The disciples had seen great results as they ministered in Jesus’ Name and with His authority. He helped them get their priorities right by reminding them of their most important victory . . . that their names were written in Heaven. This honor was more important than any of their accomplishments. We should never lose sight of the greatest miracle of all . . . our names written in the Book of Life.

Philip. 4:3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life. (KJV) Being born of God makes you spiritually alive and puts you in God’s family (John 1:12), and writes your name in the Book of Life..

Hebrews 12:23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, (KJV) We are enrolled as citizens in Heaven! All those who at the coming of "God the Judge of all" shall be found "written in heaven," meaning in the Lamb's book of life (Rev. 21:27).

Rev. 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. (KJV) To be “dressed in white” means to be set apart for God and made pure. We are made right with the Father only by Jesus (1 Cor.1:30). Christ Jesus promises future honor and eternal life to ALL those who stand firm in their faith. The names of all believers are registered in the book of life. This book is a symbol of all who belongs to God. All those whose names are in the book of life belong to Christ (Luke 12:8-9).

Rev. 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (KJV)

1 Peter 1:19-20 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:  [20] Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, (KJV) ALL who shall worship the Antichrist who is empowered by Satan, do NOT have their names in the Book of Life. Only those who have trusted Christ Jesus as their Saviour and Lord are written in the Book of Life. As Christ Jesus was "the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world," so it is that all atonements ever made were only effective and qualified by His precious Blood alone!

Rev. 17:8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. (KJV) The phrase, “was, now is not, and will come” means that the beast was alive, died, and then came back to life. The beast’s (Antichrist) resurrection symbolizes the persistence of evil. This resurgence of evil power will convince many to join forces with the beast, but ALL those who choose the side of evil condemn themselves to the devil’s fate . . . eternal torment, and are NOT written in the Book of Life.

Rev. 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. (KJV) At the judgment, the books are opened. They represent God’s knowledge of us, and in them are recorded the deeds of everyone, good or evil. We are NOT saved by deeds, but our deeds are evidence of a person’s actual relationship with God. The book of life contains only the names of those who have put their trust in Christ to save them.

Rev. 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. (KJV) Not everyone will be allowed into the new Jerusalem (Heaven), but “only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” You CANNOT get in because of your background, personality, good behavior or your ancestry. Eternal life in Heaven is available to you only because of what Jesus, the Lamb, has done. Only He can secure your citizenship in Heaven.

Rev. 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (KJV) We must handle the Bible with great care and respect, and never distort its message, even unintentionally. We should put its principles into practice in our lives. No human interpretation of God’s Word should ever be elevated to the same authority as the Bible itself. Besides the general book recording the works of all, there is a special book for believers in which their names are written, not for their works, but for the work of Christ for, and in, them. Therefore it is called, "the Lamb's book of life." Electing grace has singled them out from the general mass.

Judged according to their works.

Believers are JUSTIFIED by our faith, but we are JUDGED according to (and in harmony WITH our works) not BY our works. Judgment is mainly intended or planned to clearly show God's righteousness before the whole world. The Judgment to decide men’s eternal state, reveals that God’s administration of judgment is completely righteous.

2 Cor. 11:14-15 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. [15] Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. (KJV) . . . Satan and his servants deceive us by appearing to be attractive, good, and moral. Many gullible, innocent people follow slick-talking, Bible-quoting leaders into cults that set them against their families and lead them into immorality and deceit. Don’t be fooled by external appearances. ALL those who follow Satan will have an end the same as he.

Rev. 20:12-13 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. [13] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. (KJV) . . . After the Great White Throne Judgment, the end will come fast. Christ shall judge the world. This will be the great day. The Judge, the Lord Jesus Christ, will put on majesty and terror.

The persons to be judged are the dead, small and great; young and old, low and high, poor and rich. NO one is so great, that they can avoid having to account for the things they did in life. Not only those alive at the coming of Christ, but ALL those who have died.

There is a book of remembrance both for good and bad: and the book of the sinner’s conscience, though formerly secret, will then be opened. Every person will recall ALL his past actions at this time, even though he/she had long forgotten many of them.

Another book shall be opened, the book of the Scriptures, the rule of life; it represents the Lord’s knowledge of His people, and His declaring their repentance, faith, and good works. By their works people shall be justified or condemned. He will try their standard of conduct by their practices. Those justified and acquitted by the Gospel, shall be justified and acquitted by the Judge, and shall enter into eternal life, having nothing more to fear from death, or Hell, or wicked men; for ALL these shall be destroyed forever.

This is the second death; it is the final separation of sinners from God. It should be our great concern to see whether our Bibles justify or condemn us now; for Christ will judge the secrets of ALL people according to the Gospel.

2 Thes. 1:8-9 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: [9] Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; (KJV)

The wicked who have died from the time of Adam to Christ's Second Coming, and ALL the righteous and wicked who had died during and after the millennium, shall then have their eternal portion assigned to them. The godly who were transfigured and reigned with Christ during the 1000 years, shall also be present, NOT to have their portion assigned as if for the first time (for that shall have been fixed long before, John 5:24), but to have it confirmed for ever, and that God’s righteousness may be made known in the case of both the saved and the lost, in the presence of an assembled universe.

God’s omniscience (knowing all things) will not allow the most unimportant to escape unobserved, and His omnipotence (power) will cause the greatest and the mightiest to obey the summons to this court.

Those living are not especially mentioned: because all these shall probably first (before the destruction of the ungodly, Rev. 20:9) be transfigured, and caught up with the saints long previously transfigured.

We are justified by faith, but judged according to (not by) our works. The body that sinned or served God shall, in righteous retribution, be the body also that shall suffer or be rewarded.

Death and Hell (Hades), are symbolic of the enemies of Christ and His Church, are said to be cast into the lake of fire to express the Truth that Christ and His people shall never more die, or be in the state of disembodied spirits.
