Judgment Day. . . Every Idle Word
Matthew 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. (KJV) . . . But I say unto you . . . Any time Jesus uses these words, a hard lesson follows. Christ closes this address to His spiteful and wicked hearers by a solemn declaration that for these things God would bring them into judgment. Those who had spoken so maliciously against Him, would not escape. That every idle word that a man shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment . . . Idle word literally means any vain, thoughtless, useless words, that accomplish no good whatsoever. Here it clearly means wicked and injurious, false and malicious words, like those that they had spoken. For any such words they shall "give account" (Ecc.12:14; Eph.5:4, 6. Jude 1:1:15).
For by thy words thou shalt be justified . . . meaning that words shall reveal the TRUE position of the heart; because by the words that come from the lips, the heart shall be known, just as the tree is known by its fruit. A person CANNOT hide their true heart. If a person is true, good, uncorrupted, useful and pious, they will prove that their heart is right. If a person is hateful, phony, envious, spiteful, wicked and immoral, they will prove that the heart is evil, and will therefore be among the ones headed for condemnation (Jn.3:18). This does not mean that words will be the only thing that will condemn people, but my friend, they will be an all important part of the things for which he shall be condemned (Jam.3:2-12; Pro.13:3). I think that the Lord's meaning is, that not only works and actions, but words of all sorts, will come into account in the Day of Judgment, and will be evidence for or against a person, to acquit or condemn him.
And by thy words thou shalt be condemned . . . according to this, the sentence of justification or of condemnation. As words appear to be evidence for or against a person’s being in a state of grace and righteousness . . . for example, a man that has spoken for Christ, and has freely confessed that all his hope of justification before God, and acceptance with Him, is solely upon the account of the righteousness of Christ being imputed to him. Such a person shall be declared justified (Rom.5:1) according to his own words.
The Holy Word of God tells us that people will give account to God for EVERY IDLE WORD spoken by them on Judgment Day. This shows us to what extent God will hold people responsible for the good and bad they do. Not one thing will be overlooked. What does Jesus mean by idle words? I think it means that when we speak to others, without carefully seasoning our words with grace to honor the Lord, we have wasted those words. Every believer is expected to pass on the Word of life, the Good News that Jesus Christ was crucified, died, was buried and then rose from the dead. The GOSPEL is the power by which we are saved, to everyone that believes.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (KJV)
Philippians 2:16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. (KJV)
John 1:12-13 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (KJV)
When I consider the Biblical Truth that God will judge people for even the very words they speak, I am horrified to think of what will be the eternal consequences of those who mass-murder the innocent, take advantage of the poor and destroy families. The Bible also tells us that God will reward us for a cup of water given in Jesus' precious Name. In fact, the Bible says that God will reward us for a cup of water given even in a disciple's name. Matthew 10:42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. (KJV) . . . I think that this means that if we help another Christian who is serving the Lord, or help some misfortunate one in a disciple's name, God will reward us. We have a GOOD God, and no good deed done for the Lord will go unrewarded.
I think that most of the charitable work done in the world today will NOT receive rewards because it is NOT done in Jesus' Name nor a disciple's name. Martin Luther King Jr. was an unsaved heretic, who denied the deity of Jesus and the Virgin Birth. His work will not be rewarded, because it was done for greedy men who hired him. According to the Bible, King is being tormented in Hades (Hell, Lk.16:23) at this moment, because he denied the Saviour.
Most of the religious work being done today is in the flesh, for the lust of riches (1 Jn.2:16; 4:2-3). God will never reward any charitable work that is done to further worldly causes, backed by Satan. Most charities are ecumenical, and teach a vague Social Gospel. Jesus clearly taught that a person must be born again to enter Heaven (John 3:3-8). No amount of charitable work can buy your way into Heaven.
A dreadful attack on TRUE Christianity is the satanic plan of the worldwide ecumenical movement . . . the Coming One-World Church! This ecumenical movement goes all-out to join together under one roof ALL religions . . . praying with each other to all kinds of different gods with the only thing in common . . . unity of religions! So many people think this is a great idea . . . but IF you consider what Almighty GOD thinks . . . you will find out that the One and Only TRUE GOD of the Universe thinks . . . and He is NOT at all pleased with the movement!
EVERYTHING that we do, good or bad, is being recorded by God. The Bible says God keeps books in Heaven. Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. (KJV)
It is encouraging to know that Jesus said He would reward me, even for a cup of water given in a disciple's name. That means God is going to reward me for every keystroke on my computer, every encouraging word I hand write to inmates about standing boldly and firmly in their faith in Jesus, telling them that He will never leave or forsake them. We have a responsibility and an opportunity to sow the Word of God to those around us. Our life here on Earth is a matter of importance to God, because He dearly loves His TRUE children.
Dear one, He is going to judge us on everything we do, even for a cup of water given in a disciple's name, or for the wasted (idle) words we speak. Everything is being written down in Heaven, in books, and those books shall be opened on Judgment Day. Those books will be very worrisome in God's courtroom. There is not near enough taught in our churches about the Judgment Seat of Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:10-11 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. (KJV) http://www.godcannotlie.org/2_cor_ch.5.html
Verse 11 speaks of the terror of the Lord. Far too many believers take the Scriptures too lightly and do NOT fear God as they should. BEWARE!!! Hebrews 10:30-31 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (KJV) . . . Do you fear God? I certainly do.
If God is going to judge us for the very words we speak, don't you think that the Words that HE speaks are just as important? YES, and we had better pay attention! Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (KJV) . . . (Deut.8:3) Everything that we believe as Christians center on EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDETH OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD. For that reason, I need to trust and study the Bible. God only wrote ONE Book . . . BUT dear one, there are literally hundreds of English translations that vary greatly in their meaning and doctrine. This is why I use only the King James Bible. All other English translations on the market today are corrupt in one way or another! It really does matter, that we have the right message, from a trustworthy Bible. BEWARE!!!
Please consider the Biblical Truth that God will reward and punish even the smallest and seemingly insignificant words and deeds. It should comfort and encourage us to know that everything we do, even the smallest work in Jesus’ Name, will be rewarded by God in eternity.
IF we shall give account for every idle word spoken, then we must guard every thought, word, deed and decision. God is keeping track of everything we say and do, and will hold us accountable on Judgment Day.
God cares about that cup of water we give to someone in Jesus’ Name. He cares about the late nights we stay up doing His work. He cares about every word that comes out of our mouth. He cares about everything we do. He also cares about what our enemies do to hurt us. He cares about the one lone sheep that wanders away from the fold. He cares about little things that bother us. He cares about every violation of our Constitutional rights. He is joyous about the one sinner that repents. Nothing goes unnoticed with this awesome God! (Luke 15:7). Proverb 15:3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. (KJV) BEWARE!!!
