False Teachers, Wolves in Sheep's Clothing
The following list of Christian leaders and teachers is just a few of the many whose beliefs and teachings are opposed to the fundamental doctrines of Biblical Christianity in regards to the subjects of salvation, justification and atonement. Some of these people are very well known and greatly admired in today's world. Some were teachers of old. ALL are guilty of having said and and/or taught that you must do something (works) besides believe in faith, in order to be saved. ALL of these people preach and teach another gospel (Gal. 1:6)! Anyone that preaches the "gospel of gain" is also a false teacher. Anyone who teaches another Jesus or another gospel (2 Cor.11:4), for instance the Catholics, Mormons, JW's, etc. is a false teacher. They preach it to get rich off of gullible believers. 2 Peter 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. (KJV)

False teachers and the heresies they teach is a serious Biblical matter! Most people in the 'religious' world today de-emphasize TRUE doctrine and Truth in general. More and more, in churches today, they are compromising on the importance of purity and doctrine . . . in spite of what the Scriptures clearly and conclusively teach on the importance of sound doctrine. In fact, the Bible is full of teaching both positive and negative in nature relative to obligations to the truth.
On the positive side: we are to choose the truth, learn it, and walk in truth (Ps. 119: 30; I Tim. 2: 4; 2 Jn. 4). We are to love of truth, speak the truth, and handle the Truth rightly (2 Thes. 2: 10-12; Eph. 4: 15; 2 Tim. 2: 15). We are to obey the Truth from the heart, dwell in the Truth, and we are to be established in the Truth (Rom. 6: 17, 18; 2 Jn. 2; Col. 1: 23). Jesus said, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (Jn. 8:24).
On the negative side: we must NOT resist, must NOT err, must NOT work against the Truth (2 Tim. 3: 8; Jas. 5: 19, 20; Phili. 3: 18). The Truth is extremely valuable to our eternal soul, we must NOT sell it, must NOT conceal it, must NOT change it in any way (Pro. 23: 23; Ps. 40: 10; Rom. 1: 25, Gal. 1: 6-9). IF we resist the Truth . . . we resist the Holy Spirit (Acts 7: 51-53). IF we disobey the Truth, we disobey the Holy Spirit, and literally blaspheme Him (Mark 3:28-29). BEWARE!!!
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. (KJV) Jesus' words . . . NOT everyone who claims they are a Christians are truly saved and are going to Heaven!
This warning is scary because it SEEMS to remove the assurance of salvation that the Christian is supposed to have (1 Jn. 5:13). BUT . . . God KNOWS our hearts! He will NOT send ANY of His TRUE children to Hell!
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the most amazing, wonderful, and liberating news that our world has ever heard. It is not at all strange then, that God’s Holy Word is the active battlefield for Satan. He does his best to weaken, damage and undermine the authority of the Bible at every opportunity, using any and all means, especially willing, greedy false teachers! Jesus told His disciples that His Word and His church would endure unto the end (Mat.24:13). Even though Jesus has already defeated the devil, his teaching is still dangerous to us. How can TRUE believers identify and correct those who twist what Scripture says? Below are some ways that the devil and his cronies work! ALWAYS be on guard!
A false teacher’s message deceives.
Peter warns that false teachers are everywhere. How can we recognize them? There are several traits of a false prophet. The first is that he preaches a deceptive message. Jesus said in Matthew 7:15-23 that false teachers are ravening wolves in sheep's clothing, and that we recognize them by their works. These teachers come into churches with an program of their own, using deception. They often mention “different views” about God’s Word (Eph.5:6). BEWARE! Deception brings the wrath of God.
A false teacher’s message denies the Truth.
False teachers deny the TRUTH of the Bible. They deal in half-truths, agreeing with some parts, but picking and changing other sections of God’s Word. BEWARE of those new fangled "bibles" . . . they are of the devil.
A false teacher knows that IF he can undermine just one part of the Scriptures, it will be easier to destroy our faith in the rest of it. BEWARE! All TRUE doctrine is the foundation of our beliefs and is found in those Scriptures, and all false teachers attack us right at the source.
A false teacher’s message is sensual.
Messages of the false teachers are marked by sensuality. 2 Peter 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. (KJV) False teachers deny the authority of God’s Word, becoming tolerant of sin: adultery, fornication, lust, homosexuality, etc. . . . encouraging others to do the same, living without moral restraints and counting on God’s forgiveness after the fact. Jude 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (KJV) It was true in Jude's time, and continues today on a broader scale. BEWARE!
A false teacher’s message is motivated by greed.
Greed and sensual lust are often connected. False teachers take advantage of people. 2 Peter 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. (KJV) They play on the emotions of "flock" appealing for money. False teachers offer many unscriptural ideas about giving in order to get something from the people. There is no guarantee of how God will choose to bless us, we can only obey His Word and trust Him. Do NOT fall for the 'prosperity gospel' of false teachers! BEWARE!
A false teacher’s message is divisive.
False teachers disrupt the fellowship, every chance they get! They challenge the teaching of Scripture by offering “new ideas,” that are permissive and sensual. In many of the young churches, Peter and Paul had trouble created by false prophets, who wanted to destroy the unity of the local church. Ephesians 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: (KJV) False teachers ruin many friendships then and now, because they want to separate godly people from any opportunity to hear the truth. This still occurs in the modern church. The devil is strong. BEWARE!
A false teacher’s message is domineering.
False teachers want people to follow them because it feeds their ego. Their being leaders give them great pride. They have a gift of gab as they convince their flock, thus continuing to attract new followers. That involves taking advantage of other people by claiming a false authority. Soon they become involved in many kinds of personal disobedience before Almighty God, because they now believe themselves to be above His divine authority. In the end, they destroy the credibility of the Bible and the church. David Koresh and Jim Jones were loved by their followers! BEWARE!
False teachers produce bad fruit.
What kind of fruit do false teachers produce? The false prophet's character is dictatorial, self-willed, with no resistant to authority, including the Lordship of Jesus Christ. IF we carefully watch how they live, the true person will be revealed! Jude 1:12-13 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. (KJV) Jude described them as "raging waves" . . . noisy and bold in their professions, wild and unruly in their passions as the billows of the sea, producing nothing but foam. See 2 Peter 2:18. “Clouds without water,” . . . bringing NO refreshment to a parched soul, “trees without fruit,” . . . good trees bring good fruit, not withered and dead, and “wandering stars for whom the black darkness has been reserved forever” . . . you cannot depend on them. BEWARE!
We recognize a false teacher by his followers.
What kind of people listen to and obey false teachers? If we pay attention to how they live and preach, the fruits will be made manifest. In 2 Timothy 4:3-4, we learn that many people will find false teachers to tickle “itching ears” with a message they WANT to hear. They turn away from the Truth. “They will not endure sound doctrine.” People follow false teachers because the message is suitable and soothing. They do NOT want to hear the Truth about Hell . . . and they will NOT get that Truth with false teachers! Falsehoods become so comfortable that they simply will NOT endure the Truth! BEWARE!
Protect yourself from false teachers. Their damnable heresies will place your soul in Hell!
To be safe from false teachers, you MUST study the Word of God. It is the ONLY thing that reveals God's will and Truth to us. The Bible is the ONLY way to be saved, to know the Truth about Jesus: His teachings, His death, His Resurrection, His Return, and His position in the Trinity. The Bible is the ONLY way to recognize false doctrine and show its errors by exposing it. You must ALWAYS be on the alert for false doctrine . . . and when you come across a false teacher, get out fast! You must SEPARATE yourself from them (2 Cor.6:17). BEWARE!
BEWARE! . . . Rampant in today's world! . . .BEWARE!
