IF God Spared Not The Angels, WHY Would He spare You?

2 Peter 2:4-8 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; 7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) (KJV)

Peter did not say how these angels were wicked. Jude says that they "kept not their first estate" (Jude 6). Revelation 12:7-9 says "neither was their place found any more in heaven". I think these are the angels who chose to go with Lucifer when he opposed God (Eze.28:11-19; Isa.14:12-15; Rev. 12:7-12; 20:1-10). Some believe that Genesis 6:1-3 says that they (angels) "took them wives" of humans. I cannot go along with this.

I have many articles on Hell: It IS There . . . It IS Real . . . NO exit Doors

God threw these wicked angels into Hell, probably the bottomless pit, a terrible place of punishment. God has sent the wicked angels to a dark place of punishment where they cannot escape, while they await His wrath on Judgment Day, when they shall be condemned to the Lake of Fire (Rev.20:10,15). They did live with God in His glory and light when they were created. Now they are FAR away from God, because they chose to go with Lucifer. The final judgment will happen after Jesus has returned to this world, most likely referring to: Rev.20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (KJV)

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell . . . elsewhere called the deep (Luke 8:31), and the bottomless pit (Rev. 9:1; 11:7; 17:8; 20:1,3). Their disobedience brought about tremendous changes: #1. these angels were of the highest among God's creatures, now they are the lowest. #2. their place of abode was before the throne of God with the rest of the angels, now they were thrown down to a disagreeable lower place, which was agreeable to their sin against the Holy Creator God.

And delivered them into chains of darkness . . . Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (KJV) . . . The misery and horror of their condition, caused by their hard-headed wickedness, would lead to future judgment (Heb. 10:27; Rev.20:10). These shall remain in "chains" until the final vengeance of God comes upon them.

To be reserved . . . these wicked angels are kept very securely, where they CANNOT . . . escape.

Unto judgment . . . speaking of the last day, the time of their full torment, in which the holy wrath of God, which they feel in a great depth now, but shall come upon them to the utmost on Judgment day!

Oh! my dear friend, this is a perfect lesson for mankind! If God did not spare the angels who sinned . . . WHY would He spare you?

And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; . . . a preacher of righteousness.

And spared not the old world . . . the people in the world that lived in the world before the flood.

But saved Noah the eighth person . . . together with the other seven people: Noah's wife, three sons, and their wives (1 Pet. 3:20). I think Noah is particularly named, because God had a special respect to him.

A preacher . . . set up to be so by Divine authority and commission.

Of righteousness . . . Genesis 6:8-9 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. (KJV) . . . I think that it may be presumed that during Noah's long life, he was very faithful in disapproving and condemning the wickedness of his time, and warned the world of the judgment that God was preparing for (Heb.11:7). Personally, I think Noah is an excellent example of FAITH! 120 years (Gen.6:3), he spent building a boat in the middle of a desert, surrounded by nothing but insults, ridicule and blasphemy Gen.6:5). WOW!!!

Bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly . . . the whole multitude of wicked men then living in the world.

God punished the angels, but He punished wicked people too. He flooded the ancient world (Genesis, chapters 6-8). God rescued Noah and his family, but everyone else died. God had warned Noah that he would send a flood. Many do NOT believe the story of the Flood. Believe it friend! It was true!

And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

The cities of Sodom and Gomorrha were chief of five, including Admah and Zeboim, Zoar. Zoar, the fifth, was spared for Lot's sake (Gen.14:8; 19:22). Sodom, Gomorrah, Zeboiim, Zoar and Admab, which were situated in the fruitful plain of Siddim, had previously overrun the whole land. Bela is the same as Zoar (Gen.14:2) . . . it was called Zoar after the destruction of Sodom (Gen.19:22)

And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes . . . Gen.19:24-25. Peter now gives us the third example to demonstrate that God shall punish the wicked (Jude 1:7). The word here rendered "turning into ashes," occurs nowhere else in the New Testament. It means to reduce to ashes, and then to consume or destroy.

Condemned them with an overthrow . . . punished them with a total rebellion by bringing that destruction upon them because He had condemned them. This country is headed in the exact same direction. Yes, I know, I am one of a very few (Mat.7:13-14) who feel this way. But my friend, God HATES sodomy . . . homosexuality! It is a "abomination" to Him (Lev.18:22; 20:13), and He has NOT changed one little bit since He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for the homosexual uprising! BELIEVE it!

I change NOT (Mal.3:6). God said He would judge wickedness . . . homosexuality IS wickedness, and God CANNOT lie (Tit.1:2).

Making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly . . . God's wrath and vengeance is ready to be poured out upon ALL others who live ungodly. Peter wants to discourage his readers . . . then and NOW, from imitating the sins of those that had so miserably perished (Heb.8:5; Jude 7). God ALWAYS keeps His Word!

God disapproved of the immorality in the past, for which they were punished, and disapproves of the same sins in every age and in every land. The punishment of one wicked man or people always becomes a warning to all others. BEWARE!!!

And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

And delivered just Lot . . . (Gen.19:16). Peter brings this up to show that God DOES make a distinction between the righteous and the wicked. The wicked shall be destroyed (Mat.13:50; 22:13; 25:46), and the righteous shall be saved (Mat.13:43; John 5:24; 1 Pet.1:4-5). Lot is called just, because he kept himself uncontaminated from the surrounding wickedness. He had maintained the character of an upright and holy man.

Vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked . . . by the corrupt and immoral conduct of all the wicked men around him. For the word "conversation" (Phil.1:27). The absolute corruption of Sodom was open and shameless; and as Lot was forced to see much of it, it pained him deeply. Vexed means that Lot was wearied or burdened. The crimes of those around him sickened him and he found it hard to bear.

The wicked . . . are the ungodly, the unjust, the lawless. These had absolutely NO respect for God or His Holy Word! The wicked were in complete opposition to Lot, whom Peter calls just and righteous.

So, we have:
1. Fallen angels (2 Pet. 2:4).
2. The wicked in Noah's time (2Pet. 2:5; Gen. 6-8)
3. Sodom and Gomorrah (2Pet. 2:6; Gen. 19)
ALL three groups were judged by our Almighty God! Please consider this IF you are living in disobedience to God! You CANNOT win if you go against Him! NO way!

(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

For that righteous man dwelling among them . . . meaning that Lot maintained his uprightness, and did NOT become contaminated by the sins of Sodom. While Lot was living among them, his seeing and hearing and knowing what was going on, troubled his soul. It is the same for the righteous in today's world. Personally, it makes me sick for people to sin against God and never consider that they shall be condemned to an eternal Hell (Rev.20:15), unless they turn from that sin (1 John 1:1-10).

Seeing and hearing . . . the wickedness of Sodom was open and shameless, that Lot not only heard the report of it, but saw them commit it. Isaiah 3:9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves. (KJV) . . . This is the same as the USA! Beware people! God shall condemn your sins!

Vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds . . . Lot was tormented in his soul. This went on "from day to day." Why did Lot remain among such a people? Possibly he tried to get them to change their ways. Vexed = tormented, extremely afflicted and troubled his own soul, he had godly sorrow because of their sinfulness.

What can we learn from Lot?

  • #1. He was not contaminated with their wickedness, nor did he conform to their evil customs. We should NOT either!
  • #2. He did not become indifferent to their sin, but his heart was constantly affected and grieved by their depravity (Ps.119:136; Luke 19:41; Acts 17:16). We should be too!
  • #3. His soul was vexed from day to day. It was not just at times that his mind was affected by their conduct, it was a constant thing. True righteousness is not periodical and sporadic; it is constant and steady. It is not just something that occasionally bursts out; it is an ever-flowing fountain. We should really take this into consideration, seeing the sin all about us.

Jude 1:6-8 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. 7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. 8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. (KJV)

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Because of their pride, some angels refused to obey God (Rev.12:7-9). Those angels did not ‘keep’ their proper position. So God ‘kept’ (is keeping) them in chains and in darkness until the day of judgment (2 Pet. 2:4). Since God judges even angels, He will certainly judge us too.

God created angels with a free will. Angels do NOTreproduce as human do; so, they do not inherit a sinful nature as we do. But, each angel is created by God with a free will. Some of these spiritual creatures were caught up in a rebellion, and chose to follow Satan, now they are reserved in chains.

It seems the fallen angels are divided into two groups. The group whose rebellion was extremely great is evidently locked up, with no freedom any more. The other group of fallen angels apparently has freedom of movement and is under the leadership of Satan. Demons are very active in the world today, and these have to be the second group, for the first group are in chains! (Mat.4:24; Mat.8:16; 9:33; 15:28; 17:18; Mark 1:26,34; 5:13; 7:30; 9:26). It seems evident that there are demons mentioned in Scripture and that are prominent in our day.

We must admit that humanity is depraved. None of us seems to realize fully that we belong to a race that is totally depraved and that we live in a world that is under the control of Satan.

The Bible that tells us about the angels which rebelled against God and about those whom "he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day." The Word of God has a great deal to say about the judgments that are coming. People without a knowledge of the Bible speak of one great judgment day which is coming. The Great White Throne judgment is coming in the future for the unsaved (Rev. 20:11-15), but actually there are several judgments mentioned in the Word of God. One of those judgments is the judgment of angels, which will take place during the last days.

See the Great White Throne judgment: . . . http://www.lastdaysprophecy.org/L_D_great_white_throne.htm

1 Cor.15:20-25 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. 24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. (KJV) . . . We are told the order of the resurrections. Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at His coming, then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. . . . The power is obviously evil power, the demonic forces which are in the world. For the devil must reign, till Christ Jesus puts all enemies under His feet.

During the Millennium these demonic powers shall be judged. . . . http://www.lastdaysprophecy.org/L_D_millennial_kingdom.htm

The Scriptures has much to say about the judgment of angels. (1 Cor.6:3; 2 Pet. 2:4; Jude 6-7; Rev. 20:7-15; Luke 8:31).

Also, the Devil will be responsible for the terrible persecution of believers and especially of Israel during the Great Tribulation of the last days. He will be cast out of heaven: "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him" (Rev. 12:9). Satan will be bound during the Millennial Age: "And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season" (Rev. 20:1-3). And finally he will be consigned to the lake of fire, which we have seen in Revelation 20:10.

Genesis 6:1-4 is one of the most controversial passages in the Bible. As with any difficult section of Scripture, it has been open to a wide range of interpretations. The two most prevalent interpretations are: #1. Women were having sexual relations with demonic beings (literally "sons of God," a term sometimes used for angels), and producing offspring who were part human, part demon. These mutants were said to be Rephaim or giants of old. #2. The "sons of God" were descendants of the godly line of Seth. Instead of remaining true to their godly heritage, they were "unequally yoked" with the ungodly line of Cain. Thus, civilization sank into depravity and subsequently was destroyed by the Flood.

It is my opinion that those who consistently hold to a Biblical world view must reject the idea that women and demons can engage in actual, physical sexual intercourse. I reject pagan superstition for the following reason. Demons are nonsexual beings (Mat.22:30). Jesus said so. Angels are bodiless, purely spiritual beings and sexless. Nowhere in Scripture is there ANY reference to fallen angels being able to produce human bodies. Nowhere does Scripture say that the bodies God's angels take on are capable of sexual reproduction.

I think that "sons of God" simply refers to the godly descendants of Seth, and "daughters of men" to the ungodly descendants of Cain. I think what Genesis 6:1-2, 4 records is the first occurrence of mixed marriage between believers and unbelievers, with the characteristic result of such unions: loss of love and testimony for the Lord and a total surrender of moral standards. Instead of remaining true to God and loyal to their spiritual heritage, they allowed themselves to be enticed by the beauty of ungodly women who were "daughters of men."

Sodom And Gomorrah Sinned In Sexuality

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

This is Jude's third example of apostasy in the past. He has mentioned Israel in their unbelief, the angels which kept not their first estate, and now the people of Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities about them. The important thing for us to know is that God destroyed these cities because the people defiled their flesh. They were given over to homosexuality or sodomy. Homosexuality is a SIN and an "abomination" to Almighty God (Lev.18:22; 20:13; Rom.1:26; 1 Cor.6:9-11).

Very interesting, that in our day sodomy is called homosexuality, adultery is called free love, the drunkard is a respected alcoholic, and the murderer is temporarily insane. Satan is very hard at work giving the world a welcome new vocabulary. BUT. . . sodomy in God's sight is gross immorality and a horrible vile sin. The FACT that God has judged men in the past for sins that God considers an "abomination" should be a warning to us today. God has NOT changed! God shall judge any civilization that moves too far in this direction. Do you think that we have done that in America?

Modern Apostate Teachers Identified

Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

False teachers seem to have no thought for their own fate. They simply do NOT obey the Lord Jesus Christ (Jude 1:4), and they consider themselves far superior. BEWARE of these apostate teachers! They "crept in unaware"; that is, they came in the side door, they slipped into the church under false colors. They pretended to be something they were not.

There are four points of identification of apostate teachers that Jude gives to us in this verse:
#1. They are "filthy dreamers" . . . they live in an unreal world, a world that does not exist. It sounds good to be able to solve all your problems by positive thinking, but we need to learn how to say no sometimes!

#2. The second thing that Jude says about the apostate teachers is that they "defile the flesh." The thought that Jude has in mind here is that they engage in base and abnormal immorality. This is the same as the "strange flesh" in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah that Jude talked about earlier. Many churches today have gone on record that they approve of homosexuality. God judged the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. The angels are also a warning to us because they are going to be judged. And God would not let even His own people whom He had brought out of Egypt enter the Promised Land because of their unbelief. All these are examples to us today, and we had better recognize the fact that God will judge our "new morality." It is neither new morality nor new immorality; there is really nothing new about it. It goes back to Sodom and Gomorrah, and it goes back even to the days of Noah. It is sick sin!

#3. These apostate teachers "despise dominion" meaning they reject authority. They want to get rid of the death penalty. They want to turn everybody loose to do his thing in his own way. We are seeing what is taking place as a result. We thought we were a civilized people, but we are nothing but a bunch of fierce savages. WHY? Because of despising dominion, of rejecting authority. People want certain laws repealed. They don't want divorce. Their argument is that there is no reason to have divorce laws, if people just live together. What is that? FORNICATION!!! (Mark 7:21; Gal. 5:19; Eph. 5:3-4; Col.3:5-6; 1 Thes. 4:3-4; Jude 1:7; Rev.2:14; 9:21; 21:8,27; 22:14-15). SIN brings on God's wrath!

And the end of sin is death, eternal death in an everlasting Hell! . . . http://www.lastdaysprophecy.org/L_D_would_god_really_send_me_to_hell.htm . . . http://www.lastdaysprophecy.org/L_D_what_happens_to_souls.htm

#4. False teachers "speak evil of dignities." This means that they disrespect dignities. They protest against rules and those in authority. They take it out on the police or men in high places: the president, the governors, and the mayors are made responsible for anything that happens in the nation or the state or the city, regardless of whether they are responsible or not. WHY? Because there has been a loss of respect for authority. Now I will admit that some men in authority are not worthy of respect, but their office demands respect.

Notice again the characteristics of these apostates: they came in unawares, they are ungodly, they turn the grace of God into lasciviousness, they deny the Lord Jesus Christ, they are filthy dreamers, they defile the flesh, they despise dominion, and they have disrespect for dignities. These are the things that characterize them, and they are dangerous because of the way they have come into the church. BEWARE!!!

We need to pay attention to this little letter of Jude, because a great storm is brewing, and it is a warning to us! Apostasy is here in the middle of us today. And once a church departs from the faith, is is GONE. They never return.

I see a horrible weakness which I think will ultimately undermine even the most fundamental church. That weakness is: many places are void of ethics and morals. There are no high principles and practices.

We are living in days of apostasy. . . . http://www.worldlychaos.org/w_c_apostate_christianity.1.htm

A quote from J. Vernon McGee: . . . Out of a poll of 700 preachers, the following results were given: 48% denied the complete inspiration of the Bible; 24% rejected the atonement; 12% rejected the resurrection of the body; 27% did not believe that Christ will return to judge the quick and the dead. A Washington, D.C., minister said, "We liberal clergymen are no longer interested in the fundamentalist-modernist controversy. We do not believe we should even waste our time engaging in it. So far as we are concerned, it makes no difference whether Christ was born of a virgin or not. We don't even bother to form an opinion on the subject." An Arlington, Va., minister said, "We have closed our minds to such trivial consideration as the question of the resurrection of Christ. If you fundamentalists wish to believe that nonsense we have no objection, but we have more important things to preach than the presence or absence of an empty tomb 20 centuries ago." A leading minister in Washington, D.C., said flatly, "In our denomination what you call the 'faith of our Fathers' is approaching total extinction. Of course a few of the older ministers still cling to the Bible. But among the younger men, the real leaders of our denomination today, I do not know of a single one who believes in Christ, or any of the things that you classify as fundamentals."

As it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even so, it shall be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

This illustration should not be seen as separate situation, but intertwined with that of Noah’s day. My friend, the Lord Jesus is here revealing that the conditions that existed in Lot’s day go hand in hand with that of Noah’s day AND in the last days. The FACT is, God did NOT destroy them for eating, drinking and marrying . . . but because they had rejected His righteous ways and become totally immoral. They refused to listen to anything that even suggested that their lifestyle was wrong, just like today!

God saw their ‘alternative lifestyle’ as filthy and ungodly. We need only to read through Genesis 29 to find that what both Jesus and Peter had in mind was Sodom’s homosexuality. It appears that this perversion was in every area of society, from the Government down to the man on the street. God could not find even ten righteous people amongst them (Gen18:32).

WHAT is the reason that whole nations give themselves over to depraved living? Ezekiel 16:49-50 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. 50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good. (KJV) . . . The EXACT same conditions that existed in Sodom are plain to see in our time and suggest that this world is ripe for judgment.

Not only is man is too proud to admit he is a sinner, but is proud of his sin. The same gay pride was obvious in Lot’s day also. They rejected the words of Lot, refusing to hear God’s Word. The apostle Paul tells us that when nations reject God’s Word they give themselves over unto perversion, idolatry and other ungodly practices (Romans 1). As in Lot’s day people today are “haughty” and commit all kinds of abominations, even to the point of saying that God made them that way. How STUPID! They believe that wickedness is their God-given right. But, be aware that just as in Lot’s day the sin was condemned and judged, and in today's society, and the world, will be judged.

The Lord Jesus indicates that the world which exists before His return will be given over to pleasure-seeking, immorality, perversion, idleness, and a rejection of the things of God. All godly standards that made many nations great will be forgotten in favour of licentiousness. Do you not see thia happening all around you? Psalm 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. (KJV) Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (KJV) . . . Is YOUR name in the book of Life? If not, it can be!

WHY WOULD HE SPARE YOU??

If God spared not the angels that did sin,
But cast them to Hades; all chained within.
Reserved in the darkness; judgment to wait,
Why would He spare you? for His Son you do hate.

If God spared not the old world, way back then,
But brought a flood, where the ungodly had been.
Saved just Noah’s family, out of respect,
Why would He spare you? for His Son you reject.

If God spared not Sodom and Gomorrha,
But turned them to ashes from brimstone and fire.
Made them an example, to not live in sin,
Why would He spare you? for His Son you won’t win.

God won’t spare filthy dreamers of today,
That preach Heaven by some other way.
And the ones that listen, and take it all in,
Won’t be spared either, for it’s all sin!

God made just one Way of salvation for man,
We must BELIEVE Him; accept His only plan!
God sent His own Son to take away our sin,
Unless you believe and accept Christ; you can’t win!

The BIBLE has the answer
