NOAH BUILDING THE ARK

Genesis 5:28-29 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son: 29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed. (KJV) . . . Noah was born.
Genesis 5:32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (KJV) . . . Noah was 500 years old when his sons were born. There is no mention of the Flood until Genesis chapter 6.
Genesis 6:1-13 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. (KJV)

Genesis 7:6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth. (KJV) . . . As I consider this time frame of building the ark, Noah was 500 years old when his sons were born (Gen.5:32), and 600 years old when the ark took sail (Gen.7:6). That would mean that it could not have taken over 100 years.

IF it took Noah 120 years to build the ark, the Flood would have come when Noah was 620 years old. But, what does the Bible say?
Genesis 8:13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry. (KJV) . . . IF Noah was 601 when the flood waters dried up, that means that the Flood lasted about a year, for Noah was 600 when he set sail.

Genesis 9:28-29 And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. 29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died. (KJV) . . . Considering all these facts given to us by God’s Holy and Reliable Word, the longest Noah would have worked on the ark was a maximum of 100 years.

Genesis 11:10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood: (KJV) . . . According to the Bible, Shem was 100 years old when he fathered Arphaxad two years after the flood. That means Shem was 98 when the flood ended, and 97 when the Flood began. If Noah was 600 when the flood began, then Noah must have fathered Shem when he was 503.

Genesis 6:18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. (KJV) . . . According to this, we know that God did not instruct Noah to build the ark until AFTER his sons were born, and after they had wives of their own. IF we assume that Noah fathered his three sons in three successive years, his last son would be born when Noah was 505 years old. And IF we assume that his youngest son married at the age of 15, Noah would be no younger than 520 years old when God instructed him to build the ark. If he was 600 when the flood came, then the building of the ark could NOT have taken more than 80 years.

Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. (KJV)

SO then . . . what is the meaning of Genesis 6:3? My spirit shall not always strive with man . . . the meaning of this much-disputed phrase might really be settled by the main purpose and framework of the Passage (Gen.6:1-7), which is God’s determination to shorten human life because of their continued and willful disobedience to Him.

Because sinful man would NOT be won by God's goodness, kindness and mercy by which God had tried to win him, God would no longer hold back His vengeance and His wrath! It seems to me that Gen.6:3, truly reveals God’s awesome and unbelievable patience!

1 Peter 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. (KJV) . . . Which time span God gave man to repent before he would destroy the earth.

There are many who say it took Noah 120 years to build the ark, and they use the following Passage to verify their claim. Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. (KJV)

Most preachers and teachers believe and teach that it took 120 years for Noah to build the ark. For some reason, I started checking out what the few who could not accept this doctrine of 120 years, and I go along with them, as I have stated above. I think that the Scriptures prove that it did NOT take 120 years, but 100 years or less to build the ark.

I do think that there is something much more important than the number of years it took for Noah to build the ark, and that is, Noah DID build the ark, just as God commanded him to do, and that the Flood actually DID take place! Millions refuse to believe the FACT that there was a FLOOD! This denial is calling God a LIAR (1 Jn.5:10).

Wickedness all around us! Wickedness is worsening continually, just as it did in the days before the Flood!
