What Does GOD Have to Say?
Pride, Chapter 10
Pride is an overly-high opinion of oneself; an exaggerated self-esteem; conceit. It is, in effect, saying to God: “I can do it myself, I don’t need you.”
The opposite of pride is lowly; humility; meekness, which is strength under control.
Psalm 10:4 The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
Proud, evil people seem to think God is dead. GOD IS NOT DEAD!
Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
Wisdom (which comes from God) and good judgment live together; and wisdom hates pride, arrogance, corruption and a hateful, uncontrollable mouth.
Proverbs 11:2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
Proud men will eventually fall to the depths of shame; but the meek have wisdom.
Proverbs 13:10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
Pride is always the reason for arguments, never humility.
Proverbs 16:5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
The LORD hates everyone who is arrogant; He will not let them escape punishment.
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Proud people don’t consider their weaknesses, or that they will eventually stumble and fall.
Proud people seldom realize pride is their problem.
Proverbs 21:4 An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.
Overconfident eyes, a proud heart, and evil actions are all sin.
Daniel 5:20-21 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him: 21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
Nebuchadnezzar was deposed from his kingly throne, he became insane; and the reins of government were taken out of his hands because of his pride.
Luke 18:10-12 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
The Pharisee stood and prayed, “I thank you, God, that I am not greedy, dishonest, or an adulterer, like everybody else. I thank you that I am not like that tax collector over there. I fast two days a week, and I give you one tenth of all my income.” But the tax collector stood at a distance and would not even raise his face to Heaven, but beat on his breast and said, “God, have pity on me, a sinner.” We all need to think on this! God hates pride!
1 Cor. 13:4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.
Love is always patient and kind; never envious nor proud.
2 Tim. 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Look around you; is this not so? It is NOT what God wants for Christians!
James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
God will give us strength to stand against evil desires; showing favor to those who are humble, but resisting and setting Himself against the proud and arrogant.
1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Satan fell because of pride (see Is.14:12-14). God hates pride and will punish it.
