Chapter 7, Christ Jesus Sinless
Isaiah 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. (KJV) Jesus had done no wrong, had never deceived anyone, was never unfair. He did speak in anger but it was righteous anger (Mat. ch. 23).
2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (KJV) Jesus knew NO sin, ever! I simply cannot comprehend this amazing fact because I sin all the time: in thought, word, deed, attitude or feeling, motive or purpose, etc. When we accept and trust in Christ, we make a very uneven and unlikely exchange . . . our sin for His righteousness (Rom.5:1; 1 Cor.1:30). Our sin was poured into Christ at His crucifixion. His righteousness is poured into us when we believe that He died for us. That is what Christ’s atonement for sin means. Jesus (God) offers to trade His righteousness (1 Cor.1:30) for our sin . . . something of immeasurable value for something completely worthless, and worse, vile. We should be extremely grateful for His kindness and His love to us.
Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (KJV) Jesus was tempted in every conceivable manner for 40 days and 40 nights. He NEVER gave in to any temptation, no matter what some may say. He was completely without sin His entire life on Earth as a Man. Temptation is NOT sin. When you give in to it, that is sin!
Hebrews 7:26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; (KJV) The personal holiness of Christ is made clear to us in God’s Word. He is/was free from all bad or evil habits or sin of any kind. Jesus NEVER even had a bad thought of feeling, ever! Do I believe that Jesus was completely sinless? YES! Absolutely! Sin was not in His nature as it is in ours. I look to the day when I will have a body like His and I will never sin again. All believers are promised life after death and bodies like Christ’s (1 Cor. 15:49; 15:53; Rom.8:29). Jesus was harmless, free from all transgression; He did no violence, nor was there any deceit in his mouth. He is undefiled.
Jesus was Holy in relationship to God. He is the Holy One. (Ps.16:10; 78:41; 89:18; Isa.1:4; 5:19,24; 43:15; Mk.1:24; Acts 13:35). Harmless means that He is free from any malice, craftiness, or deceitfulness. When He gets you off when you sin, it is not because He is a clever lawyer, but because He paid the penalty for you. The penalty absolutely has been paid in full. Undefiled means He is free from any moral impurity. He is also separate from sinners. He is like us, but NOT like us. He associated with publicans and sinners, BUT He was NOT one of them. He was separate from sinners. Made higher that the heavens means Christ Jesus holds the highest position in Heaven.
1 Peter 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: (KJV) Jesus NEVER sinned, ever! In His life here on Earth, Jesus left us an example. In Nazareth during His first thirty years He suffered ridicule and misunderstanding (Ps. 69). Then, when He moved out in a public ministry, the Gospel records tell us how He suffered for righteousness’ sake, but Jesus never snapped back at people like we do. There was NO slyness, dishonesty, deception, trickery, or shrewdness that ever came from His Mouth. When we suffer for our faith, we should remember the example He left for us in this respect.
1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. (KJV) Jesus NEVER sinned, ever, not once! In him is no sin. He was our sin Offering. He was without sin; He was without blemish as was the Levitical sin offering (Ex.12:5; Lev.1:3,10; 3:6; 4:3). He is able to remove the guilt of sin and has the power to deliver us from the habit of sin. He gives us a new nature that we might live for Him today.
