What
Happens To The Souls Of Those Who
Have Died?
Eccles.
12:7 Then
shall the dust return to the earth
as it was: and the spirit shall return
unto God who gave it. [KJV] God
gave you a body, a spirit and gave
you life. He also gave you a free
will to make decisions (choices).
He also gave you this time on Earth
(your life) to decide where you will
spend eternity. You can either accept
Christ as your Saviour and Lord, OR
you can reject Christ. No one will
force you to make a decision. No one
can choose for you. Please consider
Jesus! He can make you right with
God, and save you from God’s wrath
and the eternal agony of Hell. This
is absolutely the greatest decision
you will ever make! Please make the
right one.
At
the end of your lifetime, no matter
which decision you have made, your
body will “return to the earth.”
We all came from the “dust of
the ground” (Gen.2:7), and to
the dust our bodies shall return.
But, your spirit immediately goes
back “unto God who gave it.”
Now,
the question is: “What does God
do with these souls (spirits) who
return to Him?” Will God allow all
souls to enter into Heaven? NO!
No way! Only those who have trusted
Christ and accepted Him as Saviour
and Lord will be allowed access
to Heaven.
Luke
16:22-24 And it came to
pass, that the beggar died, and
was carried by the angels into Abraham's
bosom: the rich man also died, and
was buried; [23] And
in hell he lift up his eyes, being
in torments, and seeth Abraham afar
off, and Lazarus in his bosom. [24]
And he cried and said, Father Abraham,
have mercy on me, and send Lazarus,
that he may dip the tip of his finger
in water, and cool my tongue; for
I am tormented in this flame.[KJV] Jesus'
Words. “Hell”
here is the present day Hell, or
Hades. There is no one in the permanent
Hell yet (Rev.20:10) as I see it.
Hades is the holding place of ALL
lost souls (those who have rejected
Christ), until the Judgment of the Great White
Throne (Rev.20:11-15). At that
time, ALL lost souls will be resurrected
to stand before the Mighty Judge.
This
Passage tells us some basic things:
- #1.
The unbelieving dead will be sent
to a place of continual torment. Even though Hades is not the permanent
home of these lost souls, they
will still experience misery and
torment, immediately. Just imagine
what it will be like after the
Judgment!
- #2. All lost souls will
have memories. As soon as they arrive,
they will know, without a doubt,
that they made the wrong decision.
They will remember every time
someone told them about Christ,
and remember every word they ever
read about Him. But it will be
too late.
- #3. Once a soul descends to Hades,
it is too late. NO
one can help them in any way.
There are NO exit doors, NO escape,
NO pardons. They are doomed
forever to eternal destruction.
As you see from Luke 16:22-24,
the rich man (an unbeliever) went
immediately to Hell. He did NOT
go to purgatory. The Bible (God’s
Holy Word) does NOT teach anything
about purgatory, because there
is NO such place. IF you find
the word or the doctrine, please
show me where it is in the Holy
Bible. Otherwise I must continue
to believe as I do and teach as
I do.
Hebrews
9:27 And
as it is appointed unto men once
to die, but after this the judgment:
[KJV] Once
a person is dead, there is NO second
chance! NO one can pray that soul
into Heaven. Actually the Bible
teaches the exact opposite. Christ’s
SINGLE atonement on the cross has
once and forever cleansed believers
from all their sins so that they
go straight to Heaven immediately upon their death. So there
is NO need for any purgatorial fire
to cleanse them. Jesus paid it all!
Jesus makes us right before God.
Hebrews
10:10-14 By the which
will we are sanctified through the
offering of the body of Jesus Christ
once for all. [11] And every priest
standeth daily ministering and offering
oftentimes the same sacrifices,
which can never take away sins:
[12] But this man, after he had
offered one sacrifice for sins for
ever, sat down on the right hand
of God; [14] For by one offering
he hath perfected for ever them
that are sanctified. [KJV]
So,
the unbelievers go immediately to
Hades, and believers go immediately
to be with Christ in Heaven.
2 Cor. 5:6 Therefore we
are always confident, knowing that,
whilst we are at home in the body,
we are absent from the Lord: [7]
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
[8] We are confident, I say, and
willing rather to be absent from
the body, and to be present with
the Lord. [KJV] The
moment the bodies of believers die,
they are “carried by angels”
into the Presence of God and Christ.
Some
people (cults) believe in soul sleep.
The Bible does NOT teach any such
thing! Our
bodies sleep in the dust of the
Earth, but our soul never sleeps.
It is eternal. It does not sleep. As you have seen, the unbelieving
souls in Hades remember, they have
memories. So too do those souls
who are privileged to access Heaven.
Death of believers doesn’t mean
darkness for any period of time
either. It means we are immediately
in the Light of God and the Lamb
(Rev.21:23).
Another
instance of immediate access to
Heaven for believers is the thief
on the cross. Luke 23:42-43 And he said
unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when
thou comest into thy kingdom. [43]
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt
thou be with me in paradise. [KJV] Jesus'
Words. When
the thief repented, and trusted
that Jesus could save him, he cried
out to Jesus, and Jesus told him
that “today” you shall
be in Heaven. Immediately after
he died, the thief went to Heaven!
2
Kings 2:11 And it came to
pass, as they still went on, and
talked, that, behold, there appeared
a chariot of fire, and horses of
fire, and parted them both asunder;
and Elijah went up by a whirlwind
into heaven. [KJV] Here
is another example of access to
Heaven immediately. The great prophet
Elijah! Amazing man! Although this
man did not die, for “God took
him” the same as He did Enoch
(Gen.5:24). Both these men went
immediately to Heaven and into the
Presence of God. One day soon, they
will come back to Earth. At that
time, they both will experience
death (Heb.9:27; Rev.11:7).
