The
Soul Is Eternal
The
soul is necessary for existence of a
human being. It is the eternal, nonmaterial
(spiritual) part of a person through
which he or she understands, reflects,
feels, and desires.
Spirit
properly means wind or breath. In 2
Thes.2:8 it means "breath,"
and in Eccles.8:8 the vital part in
man. It also means the rational, immortal
soul by which man is distinguished from
animals (Acts 7:59; 1 Cor. 5:5; 1 Cor.
6:20; 1 Cor. 7:34), and the soul in
its distinct state (Heb.12:23). A spirit
is also an apparition (Job 4:15; Luke
24:37, 39), an angel (Heb.1:14), and
a demon (Luke 4:36; 10:20).
In
Rom.1:4, 1 Tim. 3:16, 2 Cor. 3:17, 1
Pet.3:18, it indicates the divine nature.
The
spirit is also called the inner man.
This is what we will discuss; the soul
or spirit within us. Some people try
to separate the soul and spirit of man.
They say that the spirit is the
seat of intelligence with which we reason
and understand (Pro.20:27; 1 Cor. 2:11),
and the soul is the seat of our
emotions with which we feel love, hate,
joy, sorrow (Heb.10:38; 1 Sam.18:1;
Job 14:22). The body is the seat
of our five senses. 1
Thes. 5:23 And the very God of
peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray
God your whole spirit and soul and body
be preserved blameless unto the coming
of our Lord Jesus Christ. [KJV] I believe that
the spirit, soul, and body refer not
so much to the distinct parts of a person
as to the entire being of a person.
I think this is Paul’s way of saying
that God must be involved in every
aspect of our lives. We cannot
separate our spiritual lives from everything
else. We cannot obey God only in spiritual
ways and live for Him only one day each
week. Christ must control all of us,
not just a "religious" part.
Rom.7:22 For I delight in the law of God after
the inward man: (KJV) Since
the believer is under grace, and his
will is to desire holiness, he truly
delights in the law of God. God’s Law
demands holiness, and the new man within
us, God created in true holiness.
Ephes.
3:16 That he would grant
you, according to the riches of his
glory, to be strengthened with might
by his Spirit in the inner man;
(KJV) Strength
from the Spirit of God is in the inner
man. It is strength in our soul; the
strength of faith, to serve God. The
law of Christ is written in our hearts,
and the love of Christ fills our hearts,
because Christ lives there. Where His
Spirit dwells, there He dwells. The
love of God in Christ is in our souls!
Mat.18:8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot
offend thee, cut them off, and cast
them from thee: it is better for thee
to enter into life halt or maimed, rather
than having two hands or two feet to
be cast into everlasting fire. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. We must remove
all stumbling blocks that cause us to
sin, no matter how small. Jesus does
not mean to cut off a part of our body;
He means that any person, program, or
teaching in the church that threatens
the spiritual growth of the body must
be removed. For the individual, any
relationship, practice, or activity
that leads to sin should be stopped.
Jesus says it would be better to go
to Heaven with one hand than to Hell
with both. Sin affects more than our
hands; it affects our minds and hearts.
Mat.19:29 And every one that hath forsaken
houses, or brethren, or sisters, or
father, or mother, or wife, or children,
or lands, for my name's sake, shall
receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit
everlasting life. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. Jesus
assured the disciples that anyone who
gives up something valuable for His
sake will be repaid many times over
in this life, maybe not in the same
form. For example, a person may be rejected
by his/her family for accepting Christ,
but he/she will gain a larger family
of believers.
Mat.25:41 Then shall he say also
unto them on the left hand, Depart from
me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire,
prepared for the devil and his angels: (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. God will separate
His obedient followers from pretenders
and unbelievers. The real evidence of
our belief is how we act. To treat all
persons as if they are Jesus is no easy
task. But one day there will be a final
separation: the souls of the faithful
ones will go to be with Him. The souls
of the wicked (unbelievers) will go
to Hell for eternity.
Mat.25:46 And these shall go away
into everlasting punishment: but the
righteous into life eternal. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. The
wicked (unbelievers, hypocrites) will
go into eternal punishment, but the
righteous (believers) will go into eternal
life."
John
3:16 For God so loved
the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting
life. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. God
loved the world (people) so much that
He gave us His only Son, so that EVERYONE
who believes in Him will never perish
but have eternal life in Heaven above.
John
3:36 He that believeth on
the Son hath everlasting life: and he
that believeth not the Son shall not
see life; but the wrath of God abideth
on him. (KJV) Everyone
who believes in God’s Son has eternal
life. Those who refuse to believe in
the Son will NEVER experience eternal
life, for God’s holy wrath remains upon
them.
John
4:14 But whosoever
drinketh of the water that I shall give
him shall never thirst; but the water
that I shall give him shall be in him
a well of water springing up into everlasting
life. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. The
water (Holy Spirit, John 7:39) Jesus
gives us takes away all our thirst.
It becomes a endless spring within us,
giving us eternal life.
John
5:24 Verily, verily,
I say unto you, He that heareth my word,
and believeth on him that sent me, hath
everlasting life, and shall not come
into condemnation; but is passed from
death unto life. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.All
those who listen to Jesus’ Words and
believe in God who sent Him have eternal
life. It begins the moment you accept
Christ. They will never be condemned
for their sins, but they have already
passed from death into life.
John
6:27 Labour not for the
meat which perisheth, but for that meat
which endureth unto everlasting life,
which the Son of man shall give unto
you: for him hath God the Father sealed. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. We should not
be so concerned about perishable things
like food. We should really consider
eternal life that only the Son of Man,
can give us. For God the Father has
sent Him for that very purpose.
John
6:40 And this is the
will of him that sent me, that every
one which seeth the Son, and believeth
on him, may have everlasting life: and
I will raise him up at the last day. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. It is God the
Father’s will that all who SEE His Son
and BELIEVE in Him should have eternal
life, and that Jesus should raise us
up at the last day.
John
6:47 Verily, verily,
I say unto you, He that believeth on
me hath everlasting life. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. Jesus tells us very clearly: I assure you, anyone who
believes in me already has eternal life.
John
12:50 And I know that
his commandment is life everlasting:
whatsoever I speak therefore, even as
the Father said unto me, so I speak. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. Our Lord publicly
proclaimed, that EVERY ONE who believed
on Him, and was His TRUR disciple, did
not believe on Him only, but on the
Father who sent Him. When we SEE Jesus,
the glory of the Father, we learn to
love, obey and trust in Him. We must
look to Him daily; this Saviour who
came as a Light into the world, then
we are more and more freed from the
darkness of ignorance, sin, and misery.
We learn that the command of God our
Saviour is everlasting life. But on
the other hand, all those who despise,
reject or neglect Jesus, will most certainly
be condemned to an everlasting Hell.
The soul is eternal and will live in
one of two places: Heaven OR Hell! We
are clearly instructed in God’s Word
how to achieve eternal life;. It’s your
decision IF you obey or not.
Romans
6:22 But now being made
free from sin, and become servants to
God, ye have your fruit unto holiness,
and the end everlasting life. (KJV) Since we are free
from the power of sin and have become
servants of God, we should do those
things that lead to holiness and result
in eternal life.
Galatians
6:8 For he that soweth to
his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption;
but he that soweth to the Spirit shall
of the Spirit reap life everlasting. (KJV) Those who
live only to satisfy their own sinful
desires will harvest the consequences
of evil and death. But those who live
to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting
life from the Spirit. Again I tell you,
the soul is eternal and will live in
ONE of two places: Heaven or Hell ---
your choice!
2
Thes. 1:9 Who shall be punished
with everlasting destruction from the
presence of the Lord, and from the glory
of his power; (KJV) ALL
those who reject and refuse Jesus will
be punished with everlasting destruction,
FOREVER separated from the Lord and
from His glorious power and all that
is good.
2
Thes. 2:16 Now our Lord
Jesus Christ himself, and God, even
our Father, which hath loved us, and
hath given us everlasting consolation
and good hope through grace, (KJV) Only our Lord
Jesus Christ and God our Father, who
loved us and in their special way can
give us everlasting comfort and good
hope. Without Christ you are doomed!
I
have brought forth many Scripture verses
on eternal life. It is absolutely certain
that your soul will live forever! IF
you do not accept Christ as your Saviour
and Lord, you will be doomed to an eternity
in Hell. This weighs heavily on my mind
and heart. God does NOT want any to
perish in Hell, and neither do I. 2
Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack
concerning his promise, as some men
count slackness; but is longsuffering
to us-ward, not willing that any should
perish, but that all should come to
repentance. [KJV] The
Lord isn’t really being slow about His
promise to return, as some people think.
Some think that because He has not returned,
they can’t believe Him no matter what
He says. God CANNOT lie (Titus 1:2).
It’s just that His time clock is far
different than ours! 1000 of our years
is like ONE day to God (2 Pet.3:8).
The reason He has not returned yet is
because He is being patient. He does
not want anyone to perish, so He is
giving everyone more time to repent.
