Dangerous Social Gospel

Below are two excerpts from Dave Hunt's, The Berean Call.

Significant changes in society have been effected by preaching and example. Nevertheless, the abolition of slavery, the enactment of child labor laws and greater rights for women, while improvements to be thankful for, have not made society any more godly. Nor is it any more likely under these better conditions that a higher percentage of mankind will end up in heaven than before. While such changes are worth working for, many who call themselves Christians have become so absorbed in good causes that they have lost their fervor for saving souls. They have ended up joining forces with non-Christians who also espouse “traditional values” and in promoting a compromised “social gospel” that cannot save. (Nov.1989) . . . The Social gospel CANNOT save you!

What is the faith (gospel) for which we are to “earnestly contend”? Paul defines it as the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ according to the Scriptures. Surely that involves who God is, who Christ is, the problem between God and man, the only means of man’s forgiveness by God, and the eternal consequences for those who reject the biblical gospel—all according to
the Scriptures. The entire Word of God is foundational to the faith. Sadly, the church and world are being robbed of the pure Word of God by professing evangelicals. Eugene Peterson’s The Message (NavPress, 1993) changes God’s Word into the “social gospel,” downgrading salvation to earthly improvement. (See TBC Oct ’95; Feb ’04.) The Renovaré “Bible”

ALL the modern, young preachers like Rick Warren stay FAR away from any Biblical sermons that would turn people off! Sermons of repentance, immorality, Hell . . . are absolutely AVOIDED! These 'make you feel good' megachurches, with their non-doctrine approach and advice-based services, have made a great change in the relationship between evangelical Christians and the rest of American society. "I'm so tired of Christians being known for what they're against," says Warren.

Rick Warren has established an AIDS foundation. Help to fight AIDS? An evangelical? Didn't Jerry Falwell say that AIDS was God's punishment of the perverted?

But the new generation of evangelicals do NOT seem to be concerned about damnation. They are focused on caring. According to Warren, the ultimate issue is to "love the sinner, not the sin" - a statement that shows that he and his colleagues have not been converted into liberals overnight. Their rejection of abortion and gay marriage is "not negotiable," as Joel Hunter says. But other rights for homosexual couples, such as inheritance, well, that's not really any of the church's business, is it?

And if the megachurch managers would go full speed ahead, the evangelical movement would no longer be recognizable. Using the Internet, Rick Warren alone reaches a network of more than 10,000 churches that follow Saddleback's lead. Every year he holds workshops for thousands of budding preachers; he widely distributes sermons, teaching materials and advice. And his current bestseller has made him the talk of millions in Christian households. The purpose-driven man from Orange County is probably the biggest mouthpiece that U.S. churches have ever produced. And if Pastor Rick takes up the environmental gauntlet, the White House may have to batten down the hatches.

The Social Gospel has been around for the past 100 years. It is the idea that Christianity should rise above a personal level, and be used to create a peaceful world. How ridiculous! That is simply Satan's New World Order, which the Bible talks about in these last days. Martin Luther King Jr. spread such a false gospel, while all the time, personally denying the deity of Jesus Christ. So much for his social gospel. The social gospel takes advantage of TRUE Christianity to promote civil rights . . . including rights for homosexuals. This type of pseudo-gospel has absolutely NO concern whatsoever for the souls of mankind . . . only for the betterment of society. The average person is SO naive concerning this demonic evil, which is setting the stage for the coming Antichrist.

Communism is the mother of the civil rights movement, the feminist movement, and the homosexual movement. The goal of all this is one-world control (New World Order). Oh! The dark depths of evil lurking behind these seemingly innocent movements. My friend, abortion started with the feminist movement! . . . MURDER is a SIN!

One of the main horrids headed towards one-worldism is the apostate Ecumenical Movement. These are the so-called "Christians" (hypocrites) who are willing to unite in great error and compromise with the Catholics and other cults, at the expense of Truth and morality. God commands us to "come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord" (2 Cor. 6:14-17).

You can believe in Jesus and still go to Hell.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. (KJV) . . . You must be aware and admit your sins! You must agree with God that He is right and you are wrong! You are under the condemnation by God's Holy Word! You deserve Hell . . . NOT Heaven! The Biblical Gospel has been perverted by MANY, if not most, of the so-called Churches of today (2 Cor.11:4).

The purpose of the Social Gospel is to promote ecumenism, which is promoting cooperation and better understanding among different religious denominations; aimed at universal Christian unity (the system of Antichrist). According to the Bible, there can be NO universal unity! The Social gospel is like saying "peace, peace" while there can be NO peace (Jer.6:14; 8:11). God's TRUE people and the world (unbelievers) can NEVER have unity, NEVER have peace! The world will have peace only when Jesus comes and rules.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. [14] And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. [15] Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. (KJV) . . . Many ministers and religious workers in this world are imposters, working for the devil, NOT God. Yes! I am saying that many professing "Christian" workers serve Satan!

Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. [22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?[23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words. . . . A profession of Christ will NOT gain admittance into Heaven! Many of these new modern pastors are professing "another Jesus" (2 Cor.11:4). The ridiculous idea of respecting religious differences as the missing ingredient in creating a peaceful world order is of the devil . . . NOT of God! NOWHERE in the Bible does God ever tell believers to unite with unbelieving religious groups. It is NOT in there! Just the opposite is taught.

Galatians 6:12-15 As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. [13] For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. [14] But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. [15] For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. (KJV) . . . A local religious group of Judaizers were trying to seduce the believers at Galatia to yoke up with them in unity. Paul told the believers at Galatia to separate and avoid those who taught salvation through circumcision... "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature." This is exactly the same today with those who claim water baptism is necessary for salvation. They are teaching a damnable heresy.

When a person is born again it creates a big difference between him/her and others who are NOT born again! Christ requires His people to be born again. This particular distinction which Jesus make in us, is NOT by us conforming to certain religious rites and customs . . . but by His Almighty power and authority (John 1:12-13). It is NOT by rank, NOT by wealth, NOT by beauty or fame, NOT by race, but it is . . . have you been born again?

Romans 2:28-29 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: [29] But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. (KJV) . . . Paul tells us that physical circumcision is NOT what is important in a Christian. It is SPIRITUAL circumcision of the heart! And only God the Holy Spirit can perform this circumcision.

All TRUE genuine Christians must expose the Social Gospel! These phonies talk about peace, diversity, unity, love, and the teachings of Jesus; BUT they are as lost as Satan himself. The truth is that they are of the devil, and are ruthlessly taking advantage of Christianity to advance their plans. Many are the wicked people today who take advantage of Christianity to promote and legalize homosexuality, feminism, abortion, and every other godless sin imaginable.

It is high time for America's born again preachers to start preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ! It is high time they started warning people of the Hellfire judgment that is CERTAIN to come! The worthless type preaching (another gospel 2 Cor.11:4) that Joel Osteen and others like him are using to get filthy rich does nothing to get people saved. Someone has said that there are about 6,300,000,000 people living on the Earth. The vast majority of these souls shall be condemned to the Lake of Fire IF they do NOT believe what the Bible says about coming to Christ for forgiveness of their sins. BUT, Joel Osteen is much more concerned about teaching etiquette. JESUS, John the Baptist and Billy Sunday put Joel Osteen to shame. They ALL preached against sin!

Matthew 13:49-50 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, [50] And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.

You can always get the truth out of the Bible. Of course you can always find truth elsewhere, but never from so clear a source. Nothing was ever printed more true than "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he reap." God will not coerce and attempt to force any man to be a Christian. When he dies, however, he will be judged for his sins. He must face the day of judgment.

We need some bold fire and brimstone preachers again in America, who would take a firm stand against apostasy and wickedness. BUT . . . WHY should God send any more men of God to a nation that spits on them, ridicules them, blasphemes and rejects their Biblical warning to repent? America is a rotten, immoral nation of hypocrites who are long overdue for severe judgment.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is SO opposed to the Social Gospel. This FALSE Social Gospel promotes unity between true believers, and those who DENY the deity of Jesus Christ! These ecumenical groups such as Promise Keepers, who are ready and willing to unite in error, rather than be divided over Truth as the Bible commands (Mark 16:17; 2 Cor. 6:17). Jesus came to cause division!

Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. (KJV) . . . Jesus' words.

An excerpt from Billy Sunday's Sermon: Gethsemane

If you ever had any doubt about a literal Hell, a fiery Hell, where the wicked must remain forever, it would all vanish as I see Jesus Christ in Gethsemane, agonizing because men would not accept Him and were going to Hell.
Hell must be an awful place. The fact that God went to the trouble He did to send Jesus Christ to this earth and to work out His great plan of redemption proves that it must be an awful place. I think this should give us a new vision.
Yes, it was a bitter cup for Jesus. Oh, don't be careless professors of Christianity for another minutes. Don't you start to make a cold, formal prayer when you come to address Almighty God! Don't you dare to regard this Campaign in a critical and carping way. Oh, Hell must be an awful place when Jesus was in such agony to think that men were going there. You're a big fool to go to Hell, but it will be your own fault if you do. God doesn't want you to go there, but He can't stop you. He has sacrificed His son to keep you out of Hell, and what more could He do? I am doing all I can to keep you out of Hell. I have stood here and preached to you and I've done all that I could, and if you won't be saved, all right -- go to Hell.

I think what it all boils down to is this: Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. (KJV) The division in people is quite clear! There really are only TWO groups . . . those TRUE believers in Jesus Christ who are on that small narrow road to Heaven (Mat.7:13-14) . . . and the multitudes of unbelievers, false professors, heretics, atheists, agnostics and just plain God haters who are on that big, broad road leading to HELL!

Stay away from the Social Gospel! You NEED the Truth in the Word of God which teaches that the precious Blood of Jesus takes our sins away (1 Pet.1:18-19).
