CANNOT Escape God’s Righteous Wrath
The weather has much to do with God's righteous wrath, although most people do not believe this fact. I will go along with those meager few who say that Hurricane Katrina was God's judgment on New Orleans, because that is what I believe. And too, I think there are more "natural disasters" to come. WHY?? Because people are NOT listening to God when He speaks. He speaks in many various ways . . . and 'mother nature' (as the media calls it), is one tremendous way! God is trying very hard to get people to listen to Him, but they simply go on with their sin against Him. Their heart is hard, like a rock! Their ears are plugged up completely! They are spiritually deaf! They are actually spiritually DEAD!
Romans 13:11-12 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. [KJV] . . . Most people today are not in the least concerned about their eternal future. They never consider that their soul is eternal and shall spend eternity in one of two places: Heaven OR Hell. Most people if they do think of eternity, they do not believe that they will go to Hell. So many believe the damnable heresy (2 Pet.2:1) of universalism. My friend, everyone will NOT go to Heaven!
Eph.5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. [KJV] . . . Most of the world today is asleep as to their eternal destiny. They are spiritually DEAD as far as God is concerned. Death is separation.
There are three deaths mentioned in the Bible:
- #1 Physical Death, which is separation of the temporary body and eternal soul (Gen.3:19; Ecc.12:7; Ps.104:29).
- #2 Spiritual Death, which is separation from God ((Rom.8:6-7; Jam.1:15; 5:20).
- #3 Eternal Death, which is eternal separation from God (2 Thes.1:8-9). IF you are spiritually dead, you don't have to be! You can become one of god's children!
Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: [KJV] . . . NO Second Chance; NO Purgatory! NO reincarnation! ONE death to every person . . . period! One day, the death bell will toll for you . . . and for me as well. It is a natural thing. We all must die, unless our blessed Lord Jesus comes for God's TRUE children at the Rapture. The word "rapture" is NOT anywhere in the Bible . . . BUT its clear doctrine is most assuredly taught!
1 Thes.4:13-17 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. [KJV] . . . For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. . . . Do you believe that Jesus died and rose again? Do you believe that one day that those who sleep in Jesus (KNOW Him as their personal Saviour and Lord) God bring with Him in Heaven? God CANNOT lie!
Those who have died with faith in Jesus will be raised from the dead to eternal life in Heaven.
John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. [KJV] . . . Jesus' Words! . . . This Passage also speaks of the Rapture. Remember . . . God CANNOT lie! Jesus tells us here that: If it were not so, I would have told you! A mansion (dwelling place, abode, room, a place, a room, residence, a staying, etc.) awaits all those who are god's TRUE children. Jesus says so! If our places were not prepared in God's Home, Jesus would have told us! Jesus would not allow us to have a vain hope concerning our eternal future blessedness. Jesus said: "If I go, I will come again (at the Rapture), and receive you unto myself (come get you so you can be with me). If it were not so, I would have told youJESUS IS GOD!!! God CANNOT lie!
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. [KJV] . . .We ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God! (Rom. 3:23). NO one can say that they have never sinned (1 John 1:8). The physical death of every person is used by God, to do one of two things: either carry out the sentence we have earned (unbelievers, rejecters of Christ) meaning a sentence to Hell to join Satan, OR in the case of those forgiven (born again believers), as the means God will use to bring us home to Heaven with Him.
YES! God may use a tornado, a hurricane, a tsunami, a flood, or a butcher like Pharaoh (Ex.1:15-16) or like Herod (Mat.2:16; Acts 12:2) as a method of judgment, and He would be absolutely justified in doing so. Do you think that God is a sadist? Do you think His way of doing things is too severe? Do you think that He is too blood-thirsty? Too cold-hearted? Too uncaring? WHO are you??? . . . That you think you can tell God that He is wrong? YOU or anyone else, CANNOT advise God on ANY matter, NO matter how small or insignificant!
Isaiah 40:12-17 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance? Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding? Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering. All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity. [KJV] . . . Who else but GOD could do this? You? Or any mere human? Not hardly! The redemption and restoration of His people, foretold here, is a work far beyond any mere man's power. And too, God's Holy and righteous wrath is something we should NEVER debate or doubt. God always does what is right. All nations, all people, are before Him and He has complete control. He will NEVER bring a wrong judgment on any person or nation, ever! How immeasurable are the works of God? (Job 28:25; Pro.30:4).
Who can search out God's mind? NO one! Only God can search out and accurately adjust all things.
Pro.16:2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits. [KJV]
Pro.21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. [KJV]
For those atheists who argue that God is a sadist, that is utterly ridiculous! One of the things they say is that God killed millions of innocent people in the Flood. Rejecting God and His Holy Word because of the Flood . . . or Sodom and Gomorrah . . . or any other judgment from God is extremely dangerous!
Genesis 6:11-13 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. [KJV] . . . With Adam and Eve, God established a moral order in the Universe. He expected mankind to submit to His will as it is revealed to them. They disobeyed God. They did NOT submit to God's will. And YES! People KNOW when they do wrong! Adam and Eve sinned, but God was merciful and gracious to them.
With Cain and Abel, we learn that God hates murder and that He is the Avenger of innocent blood. But again, we see His mercy in His decision to let Cain live, even though he had taken the life of his brother.
With the Flood we start to see and understand things about the Holy and righteous character of God, things that set Him far apart from every other stupid god men have ever worshipped. We see just how much God hates sin, but we also see His grace and mercy are still very much an integrate part of Him! Who but God, would have given these wicked sinners 120 years to repent? Who but a merciful God would have given them a chance to avoid the judgment of that horrid Flood? BUT . . . how many responded to Noah's preaching? NOT one person! How can anyone blame God for His Holy wrath?
2 Peter 2:2-7 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: [KJV] . . . The godly shall be spared the wrath and punishment of God, just as Lot was saved out of Sodom.
If there had been no Flood, we might be deceived into thinking that God doesn't mind wickedness and sin. From Cain to Noah, God did nothing about the horrendous growth of wickedness on the Earth. Do you think this was indifference on God's part? NO way! It was the grace and mercy of an all-wise, all-perfect God! And it was patience! How wondrously long-suffering He is!
With the Flood we see our first glimpse of the wrath of God. We see just how much He hates sin. We also see that God is capable and willing to use the forces of nature to pour out a devastating judgment on the wicked. The Flood was the first time, but God used natural forces many times as judgment in the Old Testament . . . and the New Testament warns us that we will see it again.
Matthew 24:7-8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. [KJV] . . . Famines come from wars, also drought. I may be wrong, but I think earthquakes could mean all other natural disasters too: tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, storms in general, etc. Just consider the tornadoes in this year alone. I also think these storms will continue to be more frequent and more severe in the future. WHY? Sin! And people's indifference with it. America was once a "nation under God." This NO longer applies to her condition. She is rapidly becoming like the people before the Flood, like the people before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Matthew 24:36-44 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. [KJV] . . . None of the wicked knew the time the Flood would come . . . until it came upon them. So too Jesus says, it shall be when the Son of Man shall come. NO one shall know the precise time, until He comes, and then it shall be too late for many.
The meaning of verses 40-41 is that two persons near each other, one shall be taken, and the other left. This again is speaking of the Rapture (above). This will be a calamity to those "left behind" for they will enter the Great Tribulation Period, a time of the unequaled horror of God's Holy and righteous wrath.
Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. [KJV] . . . This will be the days in which all the calamities predicted by Moses, Joel, Daniel, and other prophets, as well as those predicted by our Saviour, take place.
Watch. We must be looking for the Lord's Coming. No! We do not know what year, month or day that will be . . . but God has given us many things to look for . . . for us to realize that it could be soon. We must be expecting it . . . as very near; as the great event that it shall be. We must watch the signs of His Coming, and be ready. He could come today!
Can we learn anything else about the God of the Old Testament from the Genesis Flood? Absolutely! He sees and knows what is going on in the Earth, and He is impacted by what He sees. Our Creator God has emotions; He feels pain . . . and it is our actions (or lack of actions sometimes) that cause His pain.
What we do and say and think makes a difference in God's eyes. We people can either hold a deep reverence in their heart for God, and glorify Him . . . OR they can harbor a hatred and distrust for Him and blaspheme Him. What we do and say and think can please God or grieve Him.
The Old Testament tells us God “takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked.”
Ezekiel 33:11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel? [KJV] . . . The Bible speaks of a longsuffering God, who is compassionate and gracious, and slow to anger (I Pet.3:20; Ex.34:6). I see a God who mourns the sin of His people and agonizes over the judgment that their sins bring down upon them. I see a God who suffers when we suffer, even when our suffering is our own fault. When I read about the Flood I see a God who graciously reached out to a wicked and immoral humanity for 120 years before His righteous judgment came about. I am certain that he shed tears of grief when He shut the door of the ark (Gen.7:16).
