God's Promises to the Wicked (Unbelievers)
The WICKED are people:
- 1. Those who have NO fear whatsoever of God.
- 2. Those who do NOT abandon their evil ways, but seem proud of them.
- 3. Who live a life far from what God expects.
- 4. Who do NOT expect or prepare for eternity.
- 5. Who refuse to believe God, and instead curse and blaspheme Him, His Holy Name, His Holy Word, and His people . . . be they Jews or born again Christians.
Characteristics of the Wicked
Psalm 5:9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue. [KJV] . . . Their heart is filled with evil.
Psalm 37:12-15 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming. The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation. Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken. [KJV] . . . There is an irreconcilable hostility in the souls of the wicked against the godly. They use their tongue like a sword, with sharp, bitter words, to slander and insult them in every possible way. They shoot out their arrows on the poor and needy.
Psalm 52:3 Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. [KJV] . . . The wicked love doing evil instead of good. They would rather lie than speak truth.
Psalm 64:3-6 Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words: That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them? They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep. [KJV] . . . The wicked dream up evil things to speak, and concentrate on the most provoking, injurious, and offensive words; just as the soldier sharpens his sword that he may better kill his enemies. Their bitter words are like arrows. Their insulting words are like deadly poisoned arrows. That they may shoot in secret—They lurk, that they may take their aim the more surely, and not miss their mark. They are always searching out new sins to commit.
Proverbs 4:16-17 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. [KJV] . . . Wicked people can't sleep unless they do wrong; they can't sleep unless they make someone stumble. Their food is doing wickedness, their drink is violence.
Isaiah 57:20-21 But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked. [KJV] . . . The wicked are like the stormy sea billows, which cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There can be no peace to the wicked . . . just the opposite from the righteous (John 14:27).
2 Tim.3:2-5 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. [KJV] . . . Lovers of their own selves; me, me, me, regardless of anyone else. Covetous, lovers of money; because of what riches can obtain; the root of all evil (1 Tim.6:10). Boasters; boasting of having what they have not. Proud, arrogant; showing themselves to be something they are not. Blasphemous; those who speak impiously of God and sacred things, and injuriously to men, evil-speakers, revilers. Disobedient to parents; headstrong, those whom their parents can't control. The character of the times. Unthankful; persons without grace, who think they have a right to the services of all men, yet feel no obligation, and no gratitude. Unholy; having no heart reverence for God. Without natural affection; no desire to bear their young (abortion), immoral sexual desires (homosexuality). Truce-breakers; won't keep their word, lie, false witness. In Rom.1:31, "implacable" (cruel, hard-hearted). False accusers; slanderers; gossips, backbiters. Incontinent, fierce; both soft and hard: incontinently indulging themselves, but being inhuman to others. Despisers of those that are good; they hate people who are good or do good. Heady; headstrong, precipitate, rash, inconsiderate, dive headlong in action or passion. High-minded; literally, "puffed up" with pride, as with smoke blinding them; those who are full of themselves, and empty of all good. Lovers of pleasure, more than lovers of God; the love of pleasure always destroys any love or sense of God. A form of godliness; outward appearance only. They say: "I'm a Christian" but do NOT have Christ in their hearts. They frequent 'church' and observe religious observances, thinking like so many that they can work their way to Heaven, which is impossible (James 6:23; Eph.2:8-9). From such turn away . . .run in the other direction as fast as you can. Do NOT imitate them, do NOT have any kind of fellowship with them; they are dangerous to your eternal soul. denying -- rather as Greek, "having denied," that is, renounced.
2 Peter 2:4-6 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; [KJV] . . . If God in the past, has punished the ungodly (the wicked) and saved righteous people, He will be sure to do it also in days to come. God does NOT change and He CANNOT lie!
Jude 1:5-7 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. [KJV] . . . (1 Cor.10:6-12). Those who had been delivered from Egypt were afterward destroyed for their unbelief. Their being rescued did not prevent destruction from coming on them. The fact that these people seemed to be delivered from sin, and had professed to be followers of God, did not prevent their being destroyed when they led wicked lives.
God destroyed them that believed not. They were not allowed to enter the Promised Land, but were cut off in the wilderness (Heb.3:16-19). God has NOT changed. He shall still destroy those today that believe not. These too shall not enter the Promised Land (Heaven).
Just as God judged the angels that revolted against Him and just as He judged Sodom and Gomorrah, He shall judge ALL the wicked of today, those who refuse to believe!
Going after strange flesh, has been called sodomy and homosexuality (Rom.1:26-27). Going after means that they were greatly addicted to this sin. Strange refers to that which is contrary to nature. Are set forth for an example. They furnish a warning against all such conduct, and a display that punishment shall come upon the ungodly.
The word vengeance means punishment. Great vengeance shall the Lord take on the guilty; not vengeance to gratify His personal feelings, but vengeance like that which a judge appoints for the maintenance of the laws; such as justice demands. Eternal fire is Hell, and is often used to mean future punishment, as expressing the severity and intensity of the suffering (Mat.25:41). It does NOT mean like the temporary fires which consumed Sodom and Gomorrah.
Acts 13:10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? [KJV] . . . The wicked are full of deceit, evil schemes and malice. They are children of the devil, enemies of all righteousness. It seems they glory in perverting the right paths of the Lord.
1 John 3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. [KJV] . . . It is not hard to recognize Satan's children.
John 8:42-45 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. [KJV] Jesus' words . . . Ye are of your father the devil. . . this means the wicked (unbelievers) have the temper, character, or feelings of their father the devil (1 John 3:10). They are influenced by the devil, they imitate the devil, and should rightly be called the devil's children.
The lusts . . . means the desires or wishes. The wicked simply do what pleases him/her without any consideration whatsoever of anyone else. Ye will do . . . they will do what they choose to do. Jesus uses the same form of speech in: John 5:40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. [KJV] Jesus' words.
The wicked show that they are the children of the devil because of: #1 their murderous disposition; #2 they reject the Truth; #3 tjey go along with falsehood and error. #4 they refuse to believe God . . . which is utter foolishness because God CANNOT lie!
Psalm 52:2-5 Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue. God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. [KJV] . . . Lies, slander, blasphemy and cursing comes from the tongue of the wicked which reveal the desperate wickedness of their heart. The tongue of the wicked is like a sharp knife, which cuts to the bone. They love to do evil. #1. They boast in the power to do evil. #2 their tongue studies, invents and plans to do and speak mischiefs. #3 They are deceitful workers. #4 They love evil and not good. #5 They love lying; they delight in falsehoods. #6 Their every word is intended to destroy even those he loves. #7 Their tongue is deceitful; they pretend friendship but their heart is full of hostility.
Consider what God says about their punishment: #1 God shall destroy thee. #2 God will strike you down once and for all. He will pluck you from your home
and drag you from the land of the living.
Isaiah 26:10 Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD. [KJV] . . . Although God shows mercy and grace to the wicked, they do not see the majesty of the Lord, nor do they learn to do what is right. They do what is evil and unjust and dishonest, following after the devil their father on that broad road that leads to Hell (Mat.7:13-14).
Matthew 27:27-31 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. [KJV] . . . Christ Jesus was led as a Lamb to the slaughter, as a Sacrifice to the altar. Even the mercies of the wicked are extremely cruel. Was there ever any sorrow like His sorrow? As we consider His death, let us also consider His love for us. As if His death, so painful and humiliating, were not enough, the wicked added to it in many ways, bitterness and terror.
It was usual to shame criminals, by a writing to state the crime for which they were crucified. They set up one over Christ's head, intended to rebuke him, but God works in such mysterious ways that even His accusation honored Him. He was crucified with two robbers, He was at His death, numbered among the transgressors (Isa.53:12), that we, at our death, might be numbered among the saints. The insults and mocking that Jesus received are here recorded.
The wicked enemies of Christ . . . then and now . . . try hard to make others believe that our religion is false and that we as God's children are weak and pathetic. One day, they shall fully realize that they were wrong and bow at His Feet and confess that Jesus is LORD! (Isa.45:23). It shall happen my friend! Believe it. God CANNOT lie!
Romans 14:11-12 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. [KJV] . . . Every knee shall bow to me means that EVERYONE shall reverence and submit to God . . . as it should be! It means, that EVERY person shall acknowledge Him as God, and admit His right to universal dominion. Believe God! God CANNOT lie!
Proverbs 16:12 It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness. [KJV] . . . Government leaders are rightly expected, by their position, to hate evil; but in today's world, this is far from true. Good leaders should hate all evil and wrongdoing. . . but, this is far from the truth. It seems as thought the reason people want in office is to rip off the people. So sad! Honest leadership should have a moral foundation. ALL those wicked leaders shall stand before Jesus one day and face His wrath and judgment.
The Wicked . . . Their Promised End!
Psalm 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. [KJV] . . . Headlong, down into Hell, very emphatic. All the nations that forget God (there are many of them). There are both nations and individuals who, though they know OF the TRUE God, they are not mindful of Him, do not acknowledge Him in their ways and works. They ALL shall be thrust down into Hell. Are you one of these? Do NOT forget your Maker, and HIM who died for you.
Psalm 11:6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. [KJV] . . . Their punishment is described by vivid figures meanting abundant, sudden, furious, and utter destruction (Gen.19:24). This sounds like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Snares are judgments that fall on them suddenly and unawares. Fire shall come immediately from God, and not be extinguishable. Brimstone is what is melted by the fire, for their drink! This shall be the portion of their cup. Cup here is a figure for God's wrath. Horrible tempest is probably a scorching wind. NO one needs to go to this!
Isaiah 13:9-11 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. [KJV] . . . Judgment Day is coming! Believe it! It shall be a terrible day of His fury and fierce anger against sin. The land will be destroyed and ALL the sinners with it. The heavens will be black . . . no light will shine from stars or sun or moon. The LORD will absolutely punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their sin. He will crush the the proud and the arrogance of the mighty. NO wicked person will be able to talk his/her way out of this Judgment.
Isaiah 59:18 According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence. [KJV] . . . Everyone shall pay for the evil they have done. Everyone shall pay for their unbelief and their their rejection of Christ.
Matthew 5:21-22 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. [KJV] Jesus' words . . . Brother here, means any person. "Raca," is a scornful word, coming from pride. "Thou fool," is a spiteful word, coming from hatred. Malicious slanderings and criticisms are like poison that kills secretly and slowly. Christ tells us that we are not to make light of these sins, because people will certainly be called into judgment for them.
Matthew 13:40-42 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. [KJV] Jesus' words . . . Just as the weeds are separated from a good crop and burned, so it will be at the end of the world. Christ, the Son of Man, will send His Holy angels, and they will remove everything that causes sin and everyone who does evil, and they will throw them into the firey furnace (Hell). There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: [KJV] Jesus' words . . . The wicked in this world were/are often called to come to Christ for eternal life . . . but they turned away, again and again from His calls. On Judgmant Day, condemned sinners will offer many excuses in vain. The punishment of the wicked will be everlasting. I cannot stress this point enough! Their punishment, their verdict, their state, CANNOT be altered once the Judge has pronounced His ruling. My friend, life and death, good and evil, the blessing and the curse, are set clearly before us. We all have a free will that we may choose our own road (Mat.7:13-14). Each road has its own Place where it ends! Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. [KJV] Jesus' words. . . . The strait gate opens to the narrow road, which leads to Heaven. The wide gate opens to the broad road, which leads to Hell. Your choice now! At the judgment, there shall be NO more choices!
John 5:28-29 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. [KJV] . . . Jesus' words. There shall be TWO resurrections (Dan.12:2) . . . one for the righteous and one for the ungodly (the wicked, those who refuse to believe God). The destination of the righteous is Heaven! The destination of the wicked is the Lake of Fire (Hell).
